THE TRUE GENESIS OF MARKETING
THE TRUE GENESIS OF MARKETING
INTRODUCTION
Perpetually, since people have had something to trade, we’ve
been marketing. But the effectiveness of those marketing methods have waxed and
waned over thousands of years, and as consumers and their technologies advanced
at a more and more rapid pace, marketers have had to change their game.
At one time, cutting edge technology was limited to just a
small segment of the population – and these advancements were slowly rolled out
to the masses over decades (and even centuries!). Now, adoption rates are
faster than the speed of light and more widespread than ever – and it’s putting
control back in the hands of consumers. It’s up to marketers to keep pace in
this cluttered, fast-paced world if they want their message heard. Through the
lens of marketing history, watch how marketers are succeeding. Take a look at
how technology has changed the way marketers do their jobs, how consumers have
responded (not always so favorably), and let us know where you think the future
of marketing lies. As always, feel free to share and embed at your leisure!
History of Marketing
It is hard for many to believe, but
when compared to economics, production and operations, accounting and other
business areas, marketing is a relatively young discipline having emerged in
the early 1900s. Prior to this time most issues that are now commonly associated
with marketing were either assumed to fall within basic concepts of economics
(e.g., price setting was viewed as a simple supply/demand issue), advertising
(well developed by 1900), or in most cases, simply not yet explored (e.g.,
customer purchase behavior, importance of distribution partners).
MY CONCLUSIONS ON THE TRUE GENESIS OF MARKETING
As a professional and practicing
marketer, am pretty sure and understands that marketing is the management practice
accountable for ascertaining, anticipating and filling customer necessities
profitably.

If Marketing should have a history and a beginning, it should then be linked and established to the first human being on planet earth, unless my definition of marketing desires more than what the eye sees it, the ear hears it and the body feels it.
Fact 1: Let me hasten to add that, in the Christian
believes the first human beings to ever exist were Adam and Eve. The Bible says
that the Devil entered into a serpent and tempted Eve (Genesis 3:1). He got Eve
to doubt God’s Word. Satan told her that God knew that Eve would become
enlightened and possess the same knowledge as God had if she ate from the fruit
of the tree. This is much like Satan’s temptation to man today—that he does not
need God.
Taking a critical look at the devils
approach in convincing Eve not to obey God, is a practical demonstration of
marketing.
The devil in the case strategically
position itself……………………………….Guess what?
Fact 2: According to the Buddhists before the
"fall" from Grace in the Garden, Adam and Eve knew no distinction of
"this" and "that", all was God, themselves included. There
was no perception of "I" and other than "I". As soon as the
fig leaves came down with an influential role played by the snake, when Eve
handed over the apple or herself and Adam responded, it was all over, and the
grasping after things began.
QUESTIONS?
1.
Was there no exchange of goods (fruits) and
services (time) in the story of the 1st humans?
2.
Was there a satisfaction attained by Adam and
Eve (Customers) after taking in the Fruits?
3.
Did the consumers (Adam and Eve) pay a price
for the goods and services (fruits)
4.
Did the devil gain any profit in whatever way after convincing
(selling the fruits) Adam and Eve to consume the fruits?
5.
Was there any incidence of competition in the
story?
6.
Who were each other’s competitor?
7.
What then do you make of marketing in this
story?
8.
Could there be a possibility of marketing?
9.
If marketing existed in the story of Adam and
Eve, don’t you think that ‘The History of Marketing’ needs to be linked to the
first Mankind on planet Earth?
